THE MUSEUM

THE MUSEUM

The museum of art and folk traditions of Dr. Michele Capuano collects the testimonies of the traditions, arts and crafts of San Giovanni Rotondo and offers an incisive and effective framework of the popular traditions of this city, it is an important reference for the conservation and the tradition of the historical memory of the territory. The museum contains objects of culture and local tradition. The tools and the daily objects are mainly connected with the dialectal terminology, with the purpose of engaging the various objects in a fully historical and sociological framework of our culture and our language. The museum offers an exciting journey to discover the life along different paths and through the diverse influences of the daily life, the changing seasons; the development of the agriculture; the development of livestock breeding, of transhumance and the ancient crafts. The exhibition is developed in essential sections and affects the wider space of the history and man activities. The first section reflects the life and the culture of the city. There are the most important issues: the house (objects of the bedroom, objects and the architecture of the kitchen), the traditions (religious objects, games and home arts). A second section includes items that concern the arts and crafts (the tools of various categories: the baker, the shoemaker, the tailor, the carpenter, the mason, the blacksmith, the farrier, the carter, the wheelwright, the cooper, the cymbals repairer, the grinder, the umbrellas repairer, etc.). A third section includes objects related to the life and culture of the land. You can have complete vision of life that takes place across the Gargano area: the cave, the barn, the "tower", the manor farm.
